Guessing kupu Māori: Whisper Challenge

Here’s a fun way to add some new kupu to your kete this Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

Inspired by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, our reo Māori series Ohinga has pulled together some mates to play the Ohinga Whisper Challenge.

The rules
Two players go head to head.

One player wears headphones with the music up loud so they can’t hear a thing. The other player then reads out a word in te reo Māori. The person wearing the headphones tries to guess what they’re saying.

Check out our video, have a laugh and spark up a game with your whānau to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

This is part of our reo Māori series, Ohinga, created by Mahi Tahi Media, with funding from Te Māngai Pāho and the NZ on Air Public Interest Journalism Fund.

Stay tuned for a new episode every week.
