“I’ve long been watching these stars who have inspired and influenced me and what I do.”
Te Matatini is the national Kapa Haka competition that has been held every two years since 1972.

Next year’s competition, held in Tāmaki Makaurau, marks 50 years of the event. Performers from Te Matatini past and present are recording an album to celebrate. A few rangatahi have been selected to work on the project with some of their haka heroes - an opportunity that is a dream come true.

This is part of our reo Māori series, Ohinga, created by Mahi Tahi Media, with funding from Te Māngai Pāho.

Stay tuned for a new episode every week.
