The person was found by ambulance staff this morning in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden. There are also 163 new cases in the community today.

Dr Caroline McElnay, Director of Public Health, said an emergency call for the man isolating at home with Covid-was made this morning.

St John’s staff responded, however when they arrived, the man was dead. He is understood to have been recently treated in hospital, Dr McElnay said.

“The Ministry’s condolences are with this person’s whānau at this sad time.”

The man is the second person who has died while isolating with Covid at home in this outbreak. The first death, also in Auckland, was reported earlier this week.

Both deaths are being investigated as part of a wider review between the Ministry of Health and Auckland’s District Health Boards on the home isolation of Covid patients, Dr McElnay said.

Both deaths are also being examined through the coronial process.

There are also 4 new cases in managed isolation.
