There are 5,836 new cases of Covid-19 today.

Of these, 134 are in Northland, 1,923 are in Auckland, 428 in Waikato, 192 in Bay of Plenty, 95 in the Lakes district, 133 in Hawke's Bay, 190 in MidCentral, 51 in Whanganui, 160 in Taranaki, 33 in Tairāwhiti, 46 in Wairarapa, 525 in Capital and Coast, 217 in Hutt Valley, 258 in Nelson Marlborough, 910 in Canterbury, 93 in South Canterbury, 365 in the Southern district, and 83 in the West Coast.

The total number of active cases is 48,153.

The Ministry of Health defines active cases as those identified in the last seven days and not yet classified as recovered.

Hospitalisations and Covid-19 related deaths

5 people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the publicly reported total to date to 1,154.

The seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 13. 

Of the people whose deaths are being reported today, two were from the Auckland region, one was from Taranaki, one from Canterbury, and one was the Southern region.

One person was in their 70s, three were in their 80s and one was over 90.

Of these people, three were male and two were female.

There are 403 people in hospital, with 10 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

The average age of people currently in hospital is 60. 

Testing

2,261 PCR tests were processed in the last 24 hours, and 10,526 RAT test results reported.

Vaccinations

96.3% of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 95.2% have had a second dose.
