Of today's 102 new community cases, 94 are in Auckland and 8 in Waikato.

There are also 46 people in hospital - the highest number to date in the outbreak.

Health Director General Dr Ashley Bloomfield said of today's new cases, 40 are yet to be linked to the outbreak, while 30 are household contacts.

Of yesterday's 60 cases, a third remain unlinked.

Dr Bloomfield also emphasised the importance of being vaccinated.

So far, 3 of the 188 people hospitalised in this outbreak have been fully immunised - that's someone who caught Covid after having both doses of the vaccine and at least 14 days to develop the immune response after their second vaccination. It equates to just 1.6 percent. Fully immunised cases make up 4.5 percent of total cases in the outbreak.

Bloomfield: "It's becoming increasingly clear, as has been the case right through the outbreak, that Covid is internationally a disease among the unvaccinated."

"The harms of Covid-19 fall much more with those who are unimmunised," he said.

Overall, today's cases bring the total number in the community outbreak to 2260. Cabinet is also due to decide tomorrow whether alert level 3 restrictions in Waikato will be extended.
