There are 207 new community cases today, 192 cases in Auckland, seven in the Waikato, two in Northland, four in the Rotorua Lakes area and two in the Tararua district.

A woman in her 90s has died in North Shore hospital.

One of the Rotorua cases tested positive after going to hospital for a different health matter. The person was not in contact with other patients. Another Rotorua case is their household contact.

There are 90 people in hospital, of those seven are in intensive care or HDU.

Of the people currently in hospital with Covid-19:

  • 59 percent are unvaccinated or no eligible
  • 23 percent are partially vaccinated
  • 12 percent are fully vaccinated
  • 6 percent are unknown

The average age of hospitalisations is 50.

There are 5,478 total cases in the current community outbreak, 2,036 cases of these have recovered.

Wastewater samples in Tauranga and Mt Maunganui have tested positive for Covid-19. The Ministry of Health is advising anyone in the area with symptoms to get tested.

90 percent of New Zealanders have had their first vaccine dose, 81 percent are fully vaccinated.
