Two elderly people with Covid have died. A Covid case has also been identified in Canterbury. 

The two deaths were in Auckland. The Ministry of Health said in its statement this afternoon a woman her 80s at Midldlemore Hospital had died. A man in his 90s who'd been living at the Edmonton Meadows Care Home also died. He "had a number of underlying health conditions" and was admitted to North Shore Hospital with Covid-19 earlier this month, the Ministry said. 

"Our thoughts are with their families and friends at this deeply sad time," the Ministry said. 

New cases

Today, there are 167 new cases, with 1 case in Canterbury. 

142 cases are in Auckland, 17 are in Waikato, 5 are in Northland, 1 is in the Bay of Plenty and 1 is in the Lakes District Health Board region. 

Hospitalisations

There are 6 people in ICU or the high dependency unit. A total of 85 people are in hospital.
