Covid update Dec 27: 34 new cases

There are 34 new cases of Covid-19 today.

Of these, 21 are in Auckland, 7 in Waikato, 2 in Bay of Plenty, 3 in the Lakes District and 1 in Canterbury.

There are 41 people in hospital, with 8 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

The average age of people currently in hospital is 52.

94 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 91 percent have had a second dose.

There have been 4,544,178 vaccine pass downloads, including 7,383 in the last 24 hours.

Four new cases of Omicron have been identified at the border, taking the total to 49. 

Hawke’s Bay is set to become the 12th DHB area to have 90 percent of its eligible population fully vaccinated.

The region is only 192 second doses short of this milestone.
