A young person, between the ages of 10 and 19, is one of several people with the virus who have died over the past four weeks. 

There are 9,906 new cases of Covid-19 today.

Of these new cases, 492 are in Northland, 1,804 are in Auckland, 833 in Waikato, 442 in Bay of Plenty, 217 in the Lakes district, 434 in Hawke's Bay, 531 in MidCentral, 257 in Whanganui, 317 in Taranaki, 108 in Tairāwhiti, 91 in Wairarapa, 670 in Capital and Coast, 331 in Hutt Valley, 374 in Nelson Marlborough, 1,628 in Canterbury, 182 in South Canterbury, 1,110 in the Southern district, 82 in the West Coast and 3 in unknown locations.

The total number of active cases is 78,942.

The Ministry of Health defines active cases as those identified in the last seven days and not yet classified as recovered.

Since the pandemic started, the total of confirmed Covid-19 cases is 750,385.

Hospitalisations and Covid-19 related deaths

10 people with Covid-19 have died over the past four weeks, bringing the total to date to 466.

The 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 14.

Of today's reported deaths, two people were from the Auckland region, one from Waikato, two from the Lakes DHB area, three from the Wellington region and two from Canterbury.

One was aged between 10 and 19, two were in their 40s, three in their 70s, three in their 80s, and one over 90.

There are 626 people in hospital, with 17 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

The average age of people currently in hospital is 57.

Vaccinations 

Young people aged 16 and 17 can now receive a free booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months after completing the first two doses. 

If your second dose was six months ago you can get your booster by finding a walk-in vaccination centre here.

96.4 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 95.1 percent have had a second dose.

72.7 percent of eligible people have had their booster shot. 

Testing 

The number of PCR tests taken over the past 24 hours is 2,915 and the number of Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) that have been reported in the past 24 hours is 21,057.
