There are 10,294 new cases of Covid-19 today and 18 people have died over the past seven days.

Of these, 448 are in Northland, 2,274 are in Auckland, 751 in Waikato, 424 in Bay of Plenty, 203 in the Lakes district, 362 in Hawke's Bay, 413 in MidCentral, 153 in Whanganui, 331 in Taranaki, 93 in Tairāwhiti, 131 in Wairarapa, 633 in Capital and Coast, 325 in Hutt Valley, 368 in Nelson Marlborough, 1,682 in Canterbury, 241 in South Canterbury, 1,346 in the Southern district, 110 in the West Coast and 6 in unknown locations.

The total number of active cases is 55,515.

The Ministry of Health defines active cases as those identified in the last seven days and not yet classified as recovered.

The seven-day rolling average of case numbers continues to decline. Today's seven-day rolling average is 7,935 while last Thursday it was 8,990.

Hospitalisations and Covid-19 related deaths

18 people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the publicly reported total to date to 633.

The deaths being reported today include people who have died over the past seven days.

Delays to reporting can be associated with people dying with Covid-19, not from Covid-19, and the virus being discovered only after they have died. 

There are 524 people in hospital, with 14 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

The average age of people currently in hospital is 60. 

Testing

There have been 2,591 PCR tests in the last 24 hours.

There have been 18,757 Rapid Antigen Tests reported in the last 24 hours.

Vaccinations

96.4 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 95.2 percent have had a second dose.

71.2 percent of those eligible have now received a booster dose, bringing the total number of the eligible population with booster shots to 2,613,748.
