Friday 8 October, 1pm

Of today’s 44 new cases, 20 are household contacts, 12 are known contacts and 12 have not yet been linked to previous cases.

This brings the outbreak total to 1,492.

Three of today’s cases are in Waikato, and the rest are in Auckland.

Director of Public Health Dr Caroline McElnay addressed the higher-than-usual daily case numbers in a statement.

“We acknowledge today’s numbers are higher than recent days,” McElnay said.

“This is not unexpected because there have been a number of contacts of new cases and we can expect to get fluctuations from day to day.”

Waikato

All three cases in Waikato have been linked to existing cases.

Interviews are underway to determine locations of interest in the Waikato from today’s cases.

Alert levels for the whole of the Waikato will be reviewed again on Monday.

Locations of interest

17 locations of interest have been identified from yesterday’s 29 new cases.

There are currently 206 locations of interest on the Ministry of Health’s website.

Auckland case who travelled to Northland

Last night, a person who travelled from Auckland to Northland tested positive for Covid-19.

The case has now been transferred to an Auckland quarantine facility.

Interviews are underway to determine if there are any locations of interests associated with the case.

There are currently no changes to Northland’s alert level.
