"[Trans] representation has always been the prostitutes with the deep voice or homeless people or dead people. And that can send a message that we are no more than that," says Aelya Duncan, an actor on Rūrangi.

Rūrangi is an NZ-made series about a trans activist returning home to reconnect with his father. 58.5% of the cast and crew on the production are gender diverse. We talk to some of them about how positive trans representation can save lives.

You can watch Rūrangi at the NZ International Film Festival in late July. See details here.
