A case in Hawke's Bay is under investigation due to the person's connection to Soundsplash, a musical festival in Hamilton, where at least 1 of 5 currently known cases has tested positive for Omicron

This case in the Hawke's Bay will be added to the Ministry of Health's case numbers tomorrow. 

The country's community cases have soared with the Ministry of Health announcing 105 new cases. 

Of these new cases, 76 are in Auckland, 5 in Waikato, 9 in Bay of Plenty, 7 in the Lakes District, 1 in Tairāwhiti, 1 in Hawke’s Bay, 2 in the Nelson-Marlborough region, 1 in MidCentral and 3 in the Canterbury.

Four people are in hospital with Covid-19 and 1 person is in the ICU in Rotorua. 

There is also 1 new case in Northland and 1 in Bay of Plenty but these two cases will be added to tomorrow's official tally. 

Omicron update

To date, there are 105 community cases of Covid-19 that are either confirmed as Omicron variant or have been linked to previously reported Omicron case. This is an increase of 15 cases since yesterday.

There are active cases being treated as Omicron in Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, MidCentral, and Nelson-Tasman.   

Vaccinations

The West Coast has become the 17th district health board to fully vaccinate more than 90 percent of its residents with two doses. 

Yesterday 13,112 paediatric doses were administered, bringing the total to 137,301.

A further 23,000 doses are booked in and 29 percent of 5 to 11 year olds have now received their first dose. 

Yesterday 46,827 booster doses were administered, bring the total to 1,210,768 – of those due for a booster, 65 percent of people have now received one. 

96 percent of the eligible population in New Zealand have had their first dose while 94 percent have had two doses. 

90 percent of the eligible Māori population have had their first dose and 80 percent have two doses.
