There are 14,941 new cases of Covid-19 today. This figure includes PCR and RAT tests combined. 

Of these, 225 are in Northland, 9,046 are in Auckland, 1,519 in Waikato, 812 in Bay of Plenty, 208 in Lakes, 136 in Hawke's Bay, 142 in MidCentral, 19 in Whanganui, 100 in Taranaki, 69 in Tairāwhiti, 45 in Wairarapa, 516 in Capital and Coast, 373 in Hutt Valley, 158 in Nelson Marlborough, 981 in Canterbury, 44 in South Canterbury, 532 in Southern, 9 in West Coast and 5 in unknown locations. *

There are 305 people in hospital, with 5 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

The average age of people currently in hospital is 52.

In the past two weeks, 59 percent of positive cases have been aged under 30. 

A quarter of cases are people aged 20-29. Another 25 percent of cases are aged between 10 and 19.

However, it's older people who are experiencing more serious impacts of the virus. Of the 236 patients in hospital in the Northern region, 19 percent are under the age of 30 and 54 percent over the age of 50.

96.5 percent of New Zealand's eligible population aged over 12 have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, 95.1 percent have had a second dose and 70.1% have received a booster. 

One person has died in Northland from an unrelated medical condition. They were Covid-positive at the time of their death.
