There are 6,242 new cases of Covid-19 today.

Of these, 295 are in Northland, 1,375 are in Auckland, 463 in Waikato, 264 in Bay of Plenty, 105 in the Lakes district, 187 in Hawke's Bay, 269 in MidCentral, 94 in Whanganui, 223 in Taranaki, 53 in Tairāwhiti, 69 in Wairarapa, 425 in Capital and Coast, 226 in Hutt Valley, 178 in Nelson Marlborough, 1,066 in Canterbury, 136 in South Canterbury, 746 in the Southern district, 63 in the West Coast and 5 in unknown locations.

The total number of active cases is 55,869.

The Ministry of Health defines active cases as those identified in the last seven days and not yet classified as recovered.

Today's seven-day rolling average is 7,986 – last Monday it was 10,169. The Ministry of Health expects daily numbers to fluctuate, but overall new reported cases are trending down.

Hospitalisations and Covid-19 related deaths

11 people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the total to date to 597.

Age and location breakdowns of the people who have died over the past two days are unavailable today.

There are 553 people in hospital, with 23 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

Testing

There have been 1,197 PCR tests in the last 24 hours.

There have been 9,594 Rapid Antigen Tests reported in the last 24 hours.

Vaccinations

96.4 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 95.2 percent have had a second dose.

There were 119 booster doses administered yesterday, bringing the total number of eligible population with booster shots to 2,610,153.
