Wednesday 22 September, 1pm

Health Director General Dr Ashley Bloomfield and Covid-19 Response Minister Chirs Hipkins gave the 1pm update.

Today’s new cases bring the outbreak total to 1108. 835 are recovered.

13 people are in hospital, and 2 in intensive care.

Only 1 of today’s cases hasn't been linked to the current outbreak, but is likely a close contact, Bloomfield said.

Yesterday's unlinked case is still under investigation.

Upper Hauraki area

No new cases have been reported in the Waikato region and the Upper Hauraki area - where cases were reported earlier this week. The Upper Hauraki area will now move to alert level 3. Today is Auckland’s first day in level 3.

Auckland students get extra help

High school students in the Auckland region will be getting a helping hand with NCEA. A plan to offer students learning recognition credits will be introduced to help those struggling.

Bloomfield reminded people to be aware of the spread of misinformation.

“It spreads like the pandemic, like the virus.”
